We are approximately 2 miles from the UCSC campus & within walking distance to 12 hotels. Santa Cruz Diner is 1 block from the County Seat & Courthouse building located at Ocean & Water Street
From the North - San Jose area
- Take Highway 880/17 South,-follow signs to Santa Cruz
(approx 20 miles) At Highway 17/1 interchange follow signs
to Ocean Street. We are past the second light, on the right
From the North - San Francisco area
- Option 1 - "Fast Route" ( 75 min)- take Highway 101 OR 280
South toward San Jose. Merge with Highway 880/17 South
Follow "From San Jose" Directions above
- Option 2 - "Scenic Coastal Route" (90 min) - take Pacific
Coast Highway 1 South toward Half Moon Bay. Continue
on Highway 1 to Santa Cruz. At Santa Cruz Highway 1
merges with Mission St. At junction of Highway 1/Mission/
Chesnut streets bear right, continue on Mission until it
becomes Water Street. Make a left onto Ocean St and
you will see Santa Cruz Diner on left side of street
From the South - Salinas/Monterey/Gilroy/Watsonville
- Get on Highway 1 North toward Santa Cruz. At junction
of Highway 1 & 17, follow signs to Highway 1 North.
Exit on Ocean Street. Santa Cruz Diner is past second light

Established in 1998, Santa Cruz Diner is locally owned and family run. In the tradition of fine East Coast Diners, our mission is to provide good value, great "home-style" food, and friendly service at reasonable prices. Our goal is to be the best Diner within 100 miles. You can spend a lot more somewhere else, but why?
We offer a large variety of breakfast, lunch, and dinner items. Our eclectic menu ranges from pancakes, omelettes and crepes to steak, burgers, seafood, asian and vegan/vegetarian. Santa Cruz Diner offers a full selection of wine, beer and espresso drinks and lots of yummy desserts. We truly have something for everyone.
It's the little things that differentiate us from the "chains" - such as coffee brewed from ground beans, real mashed potatoes, flame broiled burgers, seafood delivered fresh daily, thick hand-scooped milkshakes, and more.
We also try to provide superior service. As an "everyday" restaurant we understand the importance of repeat business and word-of-mouth referrals. Many of our servers have been with us for years and they really know how to make you feel welcome
The Santa Cruz Diner takes food safety seriously and we are especially proud of receiving and displaying the highest certification from our local health department. We also provide a good selection of healthy selections for those who prefer low fat, low salt, or vegan/vegetarian options. Since 2002 we have used only Soy oil in our fryers to provide good taste without unhealthy trans-fats
We are kid-friendly with a really interesting decor and a kids-play area. Santa Cruz Diner also offers a 15% senior discount to guests 55. We accept most credit/debit cards.
